Practice History

We were chosen as the only dental practice in Chorley to pilot the new Denplan Excel Accreditation  programme.

This started in October 1999, and ended just before the launch on 1st October 2000.

Although most aspects were already in place, staff training for the whole team was required, and some minor elements off both clinical  procedures and administration adjusted to conform to the Excel programme protocols, which are above and beyond those required for Denplan Care Membership.

We are presently the only practice in Chorley to be accredited as a Denplan Excel practice as the programme is rolled out from October 1st 2000. The press publicity will be escalating during the first few months, but will peak with national TV Adverts in Spring, 2001.

1) The Oral Health Score (OHS): Here the aim is to standardize examination protocols providing consistency, based on scientifically researched measurements and interpretation. This reassures the patient that all the teeth and soft tissues are inspected thoroughly in an accurate and reproducible way providing an assessment of Oral Health which is then discussed with the patient. As the examination is standardized, when repeated at future visits an accurate assessment of stability or progress is readily seen and targets can be set for the next visit.

2) Accreditation: Designed to ensure that the dentist, the practice and all team members conform to the highest standards. Importantly,  this is INDEPENDENTLY VERIFIED by outside inspectors and customer satisfaction surveys by an independent research company. The dentist will follow verifiable standards when carrying out examinations and discussing treatment options. Compliance with practice procedures relating to Health and Safety, Cross Infection Control, Record Keeping, safety and maintenance of equipment and Waste Disposal arrangements amongst others, unseen by the patients, will all be verified.

These two elements are independently verified yearly, and failure to comply will result in loss of accreditation, which will ensure that this has value. It will give you confidence in your present or prospective dentist, allaying any fears raised in the media about poor or excessive treatment. Watch out for the forthcoming adverts in national and week-end papers, and the TV promotion getting underway in the Spring of 2001. A very exciting programme designed by patients, for patients under the supervision and accreditation of The Patients Association.

We have just completed a very thorough Accreditation examination, in November 2005, and are pleased to be re-approved. Still the only practice in Chorley! 

Watch for the increasing amount of publicity in the national press, and on Channel 4 and Channel 5 and Sky, as more patients specifically look for a dental practice with Denplan Excel Accreditation so as to be assured of the very best in dental care.
